Creating a safe, comfortable neighborhood doesn’t just happen by chance. 23rd Avenue is a relatively wide, long, straight connector road and engineering data shows conclusively that those conditions tend to encourage higher motor vehicle speeds.
Speed humps installed on 23rd Ave north of Larkspur more than a decade ago have helped, but substantial vehicle traffic still uses 23rd Ave between Cactus and Larkspur and the average vehicle speed exceeds the speed limit creating unsafe conditions for pedestrians and impacting the peace and quality of life for residents along this stretch.
Adding these two speed humps has already shown a significant calming effect on motor vehicle traffic, and we’re confident this is one of the most effective improvements our neighborhood has seen in recent years.
